Jerry Falwell

Cal Thomas on Jerry Falwell...

The Jerry Falwell I knew was torn between the two kingdoms he represented: one not of this world and the other very much of this world; one with tactics and tools that could change lives and the other with tactics and tools that changed little....

It makes one wonder why he put so much time, effort and money into political organizing when with his other role as preacher he shared a message about a King and a Kingdom that was better able to change people for the better than either political party could ever hope to do.

My favorite quote regarding farewell to falwell: "My mother always told me that no matter how much you dislike a person, when you meet them face to face you will find characteristics about them that you like. Jerry Falwell was a perfect example of that. I hated everything he stood for, but after meeting him in person, years after teh trial, Jerry Falwell and I became good friends... I always appreciated his sincerity even though I knew what he was selling and he knew what I was selling." Larry Flynt, Hustler magazine.

I had an interesting response internally w/ his death. Matt read this quote to me the other day... it was good for me to hear it. Beyond the politics and the bad rep, it seems that our Falwell had a graceful/gospel sensitive spirit. The media did a good job hiding that....
